Why student pilots do this first

If you hold a valid driving licence, you may be exempt from the Class II medical requirement for a Sport Pilot Licence. For many students, converting a licence is faster and simpler than travelling to Guangzhou for a medical.

The process

Four steps

Book your appointment online

Make an appointment through the Shenzhen Police (PSB) website or the 「深圳公安」 WeChat official mini-programme.

Select the service:
香港機動車駕駛證免試換證（預約）
Exchange of Mainland Driving Licence for Hong Kong and Macau Residents

Then choose a suitable Vehicle Administration Office and time slot.

Prepare your documents

Bring originals and photocopies of each:

  • Hong Kong Identity Card
  • Valid Hong Kong Driving Licence
  • Home Return Permit 回鄉證
  • Medical examination report can be done on site
  • Four passport-style photographson siteWhite background, 1-inch size (33 mm × 48 mm)
  • Application form on site

Attend the Vehicle Administration Office

Attend at your appointed time. Submit your documents, complete identity verification, have your photograph taken, and pay the relevant fees.

The mainland China driving licence is usually issued within an hour.

Apply for the electronic licence

Download the 「交管12123」 (Traffic Control 12123) mobile app, register an account, and apply for your electronic driving licence.

The electronic licence has the same legal validity as the physical one.
