Short answer
Build four commute cases: normal public transport, earliest report, latest finish and a disruption backup. Include walking, waiting, interchange and workplace-transfer time. Official timetables are the controlling source; a planning calculator cannot guarantee the journey.
Door-to-report is the useful number
Airport Express journey times are fast between the listed stations and Airport, but crew still need to reach the station and then the exact reporting location. A route that looks fast on the rail segment can become fragile after two feeder connections.
Night buses, employer transport, taxis and household car use may be relevant backups. Check current schedules and access rules with the operator or employer.
Practical checklist
- Home to first stop
- Scheduled journey and wait
- Interchanges
- Airport to report point
- 15–30 minute disruption buffer
- Overnight backup and cost
Review after the first roster
Compare the plan with actual door-to-report time across several duties. Record recurring delay sources and whether the backup route is genuinely available at that hour.
Transport schedules change. The calculator stores no roster and uses editable planning estimates; verify every critical journey from current official sources.
Frequently asked questions
How long is Airport Express from Hong Kong Station?
MTR currently publishes an approximate 24-minute journey from Hong Kong Station to Airport. Add travel to the station and from Airport station to your reporting point.
Should I add a commute buffer?
Yes. Choose a buffer based on route complexity, report criticality, transport reliability and employer requirements.
Does the calculator know live traffic?
No. It is a planning comparison, not a live navigation or attendance guarantee.
